Controlling the motor speed offers many advantages. First, the VFD provides greater efficiency in both power use and transfer rate in a pump or motor.
The VFD senses the load on the system and provides power to compensate. It also manages such problems as system malfunctions and overloads. This automatic, intelligent control can extend motor life, prevent system failure, and increase operational output. Single phase motors are wound differently than a 3 phase motor. In order to use a single phase motor with a VFD, the motor must be inverter grade , which means paying to have the existing motor rewound, or purchasing a new motor.
Even when the motor specifications have been met, you may experience problems with single phase motor operation. This is more commonly noticed at low speeds where the motor is being forced to operate at lower rpm. Modifying a single phase motor to work with a VFD is not cost-efficient. Rather than expending resources to to make the necessary changes, it is usually better to upgrade to a 3 phase motor. The solution usually is to toggle from the Remote to the Local operation, then hit the Start button.
To change the speed frequency , get into the frequency adjustment display next to the actual frequency output display. Toggle the speed up or down, then hit the enter button. Amps can be read by toggling the menu button to the amps display.
They are no longer directly in proportion to the power being consumed. So, use them as a reference only. God never intended for water and electricity to mix. It is very easy to fry a VFD, and they are not worth trying to repair when you do.
Be sure to have a plastic bag or sheet over the VFD. Protect the VFD from dripping pipes, rain, and wash-down water. If a loaner VFD gets cooked, we ask the customer to pay for the replacement. Be sure you know what voltage you are working with.
There are more sophisticated VFD models that work on both voltages, but Vincent does not have any of these in the rental fleet. Vincent has a loaner VFD that works on household volt single-phase power. Our unit transforms the voltage to volts, and the power is converted from one to three phases. We put a three phase motor on the machine we are driving, usually a laboratory CP-4 press.
For advanced students we offer the following: Basically, with a VFD set below 60 Hz, the motor drops maximum horsepower output and instead holds constant torque. Above 60 Hz, the horsepower is limited to the motor nameplate maximum, which means there is a reduction in torque. Saftronics has a low torque, easy start version as for a fan or centrifugal pump which is good for 1.
And every single drive is thoroughly tested before leaving the factory. Our experts are focused on every possible detail of drive optimization, and are always abreast of the newest technological developments. Often, we invent the newest developments. You also have access to our application know-how and a range of maintenance services to keep your systems running optimally throughout the drive lifecycle.
We offer you the best possible components and full flexibility so you can fine tune system performance to suit your application exactly. This enables significant savings in spare part inventories and in retrofit situations. A variable frequency drive can use VFD control to vary the power supplied to match the energy requirement of the driven equipment, and this is how it saves energy or optimizes energy consumption.
The drive can dramatically reduce energy consumption when compared to direct-on-line DOL operation, where the motor runs at full speed regardless of the demand. How ferries in Amsterdam use VFDs to run on battery power.
All these names refer to the same kind of devices, also known AC variable speed drives, AC variable frequency drives, VFD inverters or variable voltage variable frequency drives. There are many diverse types of drives available since they are widely used in industry. The differences in drive types include the methods used for frequency and voltage control; and harmonic mitigation technology.
