To me — I receive a small commission on any resulting purchases at no cost to the consumer. You can find much of it on my COVID updates page … but the emails are ideal if you like things to come straight to you with no Netflix interruption. A temple. Five years on, I had returned to Koh Samui regularly and I decided it was my duty to mankind to help well-intentioned people arrive in Thailand with half a clue.
In , this blog was born with two posts:. For a quick head-start, your Koh Samui packing should definitely include clever mosquito protection, slip-off shoes and lots of linen. Today, you have a lot more research material available to you — and the decent probability of it overwhelming you.
Start with my recommendations for where to stay on Koh Samui or, more broadly, where to stay in Thailand. As a great head-start, see all of your many choices — distilled in a beach-by-beach list. My mistake: I bought a ubiquitous triangular Thai cushion… and then wondered how to transport it home. Triangle peg into a rectangular suitcase? Another great place to stay in Koh Samui is near Choeng Mon Beach on the northeastern tip of the island.
Backpackers are in luck because this hostel has incredible ratings and costs only 9 USD per night for a dorm bed. This hostel has a swimming pool, a cozy common room with a pool table, a communal kitchen with free coffee and tea all day, and laundry services. Koh Samui has lots of amazing restaurants and street food. This small little restaurant in Chaweng has plastic chairs and an unimpressive appearance, but the food is cheap and absolutely amazing. Baan Ya Jai is one of the best restaurants in Chaweng, but it is still reasonably priced. This is the best place to try traditional Thai meals like tom yum soup or cashew nut stir fry, as they will be great quality and still affordable.
Located near the Big Buddha, Supattra Thai Dining is a classy restaurant with some of the best seafood on the island. You can find classic Thai and international dishes with fresh blue crabs, such as blue crab coconut curry and crab risotto. Hi there I am staying in Koh Samui in June for 4 days and have been told this is long enough. I have not stayed before but am staying in a hotel called Samui First House that looks lovely, is on the beach and reasonably priced. South Chaweng is a good choice, quieter than main Chaweng, but still lots of restaurants etc and close enough to get to the night time action if wanted.
We've been visiting KS for a week for the past years, this year we are staying 2 weeks and are already planning to bring a crowd of friends next year There is plenty to do and see for a week, especially if you like Thai food, we haven't seen everything yet and find new sources of great local food every year.
I am planning a week in KS for my husband and i, first time for us. Can you recommend somewhere nice to stay. In my personal opinion, if you are already spending 2 weeks across Phuket and Krabi , why not check out Chiang Mai in northern Thailand instead?
So much to see and do in a more traditional Thai environment For mine, Koh Samui is sort of in between Phuket and Krabi Skip to main content. Sign in to get trip updates and message other travelers. This is another attraction that will use up the best part of your day. Numerous activities can be enjoyed alongside some stunning views, nature, and wildlife. Kayaking and snorkeling are two of those activities and you can also expect a filling lunch and plenty of refreshments as part of the package.
As for the evening, this is your last night so we recommend a drink or two at some local bars. There are plenty around, especially if you go back to Chaweng Walking Street night market.
Before your perfect vacation in Koh Samui ends, you still have a bit of time to tick a couple more attractions off your list. As another market, you can find some final souvenirs there while taking in the local culture. Be sure to pay a quick visit to Wat Phra Yai. This is a temple complex that includes the legendary Big Buddha statue. Of course, if you arrive fairly early and have a bit of time to play with, you will also want to start your vacation slowly.
You have a bit of spare time with some additional days, after all. We suggest grabbing a spa treatment, Thai massage, or both at your hotel or somewhere local.
This will begin the relaxation that your vacation endeavors to bring. A Thai massage may hurt initially but you will feel reborn afterward. During the early hours of the evening, grab a cocktail or two at a local bar that overlooks the Gulf of Thailand.
Enjoy the sunset before thinking about your plans for day 2. For your first real day in Koh Samui, it is time to ramp things up a little. Why not spend the day finding out exactly why Koh Samui is such a beautiful island?
A day tour there will allow you to go kayaking and snorkeling with a lunch thrown in as well. Once you have returned to your hotel, you can then take a trip to Chaweng Night Market. There, you can get a taste for some of the fabulous Thai street food and hunt for souvenirs.
